Message from a Mystic

It is probably only coincidence that the questions I’ve been receiving lately, and the artwork I’ve been producing, have quite a bit in common. If you look closely at the above image, it is bit of an optical illusion.
Are you going into a box?
Or, coming out?
Curious, isn’t it.
In this message, I would like to respond to the impression I’m getting from humanity, as it relates to the studies of the unknown.
Or, the mysterious.
Call it what you like. Some people even call it Satan.
I probably called it something, at one time. I can’t call it the unknown for myself, anymore.
Not after what I’ve been through…
I’m also beginning to wonder if calling myself a Mystic, is in my best interest, anymore.
Even though, I am, a Mystic.
Assumptions are made. Some that I’m not too pleased with. Please bear in mind that the only reason why I label myself as such, is because a doctor did it for me, after reading my neurology test results. It was quite a relief to have my symptoms explained. And, perhaps unfortunately, the label went with it.
But, that doesn’t really matter.
I’ve been asked if I can predict the future. I’ve answered this question too many times, with the same response:
No one can predict human behavior. Not even the God you worship. If that were so, that God could also control your behavior.
Obviously, that is not the case, unless your God is confused. Look around. Do you see logic displayed around you?
Predictions have been used, for thousands of years, to gain control over the masses, by giving them a directive. It is like an old magic trick. Tell someone they’ll do something, as a prediction. Then, if you’re lucky, they’ll actually do it. This gives that person power over the seeker, enabling them to gain control over anyone who requests their services. It can also be used to spur social changes. Or religious agendas.
I have also been asked if anyone can be a Mystic:
I don’t think so. All humans are born with the potential, but few feel inspired to walk the rigid path that is required.
Are you a Witch:
No. But, if I were, I would proudly admit it. There is freedom of religion in my country. You can be anything you want.
Do you have superpowers:
No. The more knowledge one gains in Mysticism, the more they realize that they have no power, whatsoever.
No one does.
Jesus Christ said it best:
“You have no power here. The only power you do have, is that which is given to you from far above.”
Amen to that.
“Far above? Who is far above that has this power?” they ask.
Extraterrestrials. Accept it, or do not. The truth does not require your approval in order to exist.
All in all, you will be where you are, unless you change your circumstances. You will do what you want, and no one will be able to amply predict it. (Not even a Mystic) You are powerless, except in your own resources to change your life. If you do change your life, you will probably receive aid from “above.”
And, that “above” is called by many names.
The unknown.
The mysterious.
Satan.
God.
Extraterrestrials.
But, one more thought on the prediction of the future, that I must agree with. This is an ancient story, with exquisite truth within it:
“There was a merchant in Baghdad who sent his servant to market to buy provisions and in a little while the servant came back, white and trembling, and said, Master, just now when I was in the marketplace I was jostled by a woman in the crowd and when I turned I saw it was Death that jostled me. She looked at me and made a threatening gesture, now, lend me your horse, and I will ride away from this city and avoid my fate. I will go to Samaria and there Death will not find me. The merchant lent him his horse, and the servant mounted it, and he dug his spurs in its flanks and as fast as the horse could gallop he went. Then the merchant went down to the marketplace and he saw me standing in the crowd and he came to me and said, Why did you make a threating gesture to my servant when you saw him this morning? That was not a threatening gesture, I said, it was only a start of surprise. I was astonished to see him in Baghdad, for I had an appointment with him tonight in Samaria,” said Death.

Hi Teresa,
Great piece of artwork–to me it is an invite to walk in–i feel that as one walks in the passage expands and the sides move outwards, which leaves one in a room–which is dynamic and living.
The room is watching all who enter-with a universal inteligence -which is hard to comprehend at the present moment.
It is able to sense everything!
Thanks

Excellent perspective, thank you

There are worse things to be called than a mystic. Believe me, I know. I would suppose you have been down that road too. It used to bother me until I realized that if I was going to write about mystical spirituality I would have to learn to ignore the occasional nastiness. Of course doing that is not always so easy.

I am a Mystic, and that’s not really a problem. I just get frustrated when it’s expected that I give away information thru osmosis. This is a complicated, as you know. There’s no easy way. People sometimes assume that there is, I think.

Your artwork here reminds me that so many people want to put everything into a nice, comfortable box. If someone such as a Mystical person comes along and doesn’t fit in the box then John Q. Ho-Hum gets in a huff and demands supernormal proof that said Mystic is in fact a Mystic.

Exactly. How many of us, throughout history, have been asked to do magic tricks in order to prove to people, what they so obviously want proven?
Turn water into wine?
Turn lead into gold?
Maybe so they can solely profit, from prophets. Who knows, maybe that’s the true derivation of the word?
They want the paycheck, but not the job.
Yet, after we’re dead, they claim our information as their own, copyright it, edit it, and start a new, slanted religion from our efforts.
Profit, from the prophets…

An interesting thing perspective.
I don’t see it as a box. Rather I see it as looking down at the top of pyramid of sorts.
One, of course, that has no apex. But a platform for which one, or all, can stand and look at things around them.
But then again, I’m somewhat ‘tweaked’ that way.
Excellent work Teresa, as always.

Thanks, Michael, but your artwork is much better. Like comparing a Ferrari to a Volkswagon..mine just putters along.

Hi Teresa, I loved the way you described the creation process of your art as ‘receiving’ Somehow I find that I can perfectly relate to that, the complexity of the subconscious. A combination of images that come from nowhere (poets call it the muse, others inspiration or stroke of genius) but nevertheless it comes from somewhere, and that somewhere is where our antenna’s need to be tuned to.

I would go so far as to say that there are certain times of the day when you can actually receive these messages. lol and there should not be people around you or you might be subjected to interrogation for ‘weird’ behavior or some strange look in your eyes.

Quite confounding. I never said I “received” this artwork? Interesting commentary, nonetheless..
July 5, 2009 at 11:08 pm
oh, I must have misquoted haha. But one can receive, no?? It is possible.
July 5, 2009 at 11:13 pm
Not only possible, but reliable. Humanity would be even more primitive than it is, without it.
July 5, 2009 at 11:14 pm
And, I did receive it. I just didn’t say that in the article.

it is quite beautiful….

I have noticed that everyone seems to see something different in your artwork as each individual gets something different out of your stories. When I first read this story, I was immediatly drawn to the ancient story. And, the fact that some try to predict what another human might do, which in turn causes that human to try and make it happen, or not like the reaction of the servant in the story. However, like the story, the only thing that one can be certain of is death, for someone to predict how, that’s anyones guess. But, when it is time to leave, there is no escaping.
On reading the story again I had to wonder about the various ways that the story effected the reader, what they found important, what they might have missed, if one sentence kept ringing in their head, did they read something that they could not accept and stop mid story, did they read past the first paragraph or did they find that truth tucked neatly into the sentences.
Just curious and thinking outloud.
Thank you for keeping me thinking!

“All in all, you will be where you are, unless you change your circumstances …You are powerless, except in your own resources to change your life.” — And there it is, Rosemary!
The sentences that keep ringing in *my* head.
T – the corridor is … well … it’s very familiar. At first I thought it was small; that I would fold myself into it. But after sitting with it for a while, I no longer think so. Instead, I see myself as a tiny visitor. And what appeals most is that the sides and back don’t touch. I know that as I move through this Great Hall, I have only to give it a gentle push in order to widen the space. Isn’t that the idea? We’re only confined by our own *perception* of space … and time?
Hope you had a nice Independence Day.

Rosemary put it quite adequately, didn’t she? lol Thanks Heather…
